If you are struggling to pay your mortgage payment please consider taking these steps:
1. Contact your mortgage lender. Establishing a relationship with the lender is the first step to being able to arrange repayment solutions. Explain the situation, and ask if it's possible to renegotiate your loan. Acting promptly can help prevent the downward spiral into foreclosure and debt.
2. Obtain financial counseling. By doing so, you can gain insight and direction for the next step. Trained counselors can help you explore your options, provide legitimate and appropriate resources for your personal situation, and negotiate with the mortgage lender. Many organizations provide this service for free of charge (see below).
3. Review your budget. If you do not have a budget, make one. By creating a budget, you could gain more awareness of where your money goes and how to structure a more sustainable financial life. A review of your budget may help you restructure your mortgage payment.
